Car ownership is far from even. Broadstone ward had 58.3% of households with two or more cars or vans in 2021, while in Poole Town ward 32.1% of households had none. SSEN, which runs Poole's network, put the likely number of electric vehicles across Poole by 2030 at 13,488 in 2022, and it relies on installers to tell it where each home charger goes.
Which route a charger takes depends on the supply. If the property's total demand, charger included, stays at 60 amps or below, it can be fitted and SSEN notified within 28 days. Above 60 amps, or where the house shares a looped service cable with a neighbour, SSEN needs a load check first and completes any upgrade or unlooping before a charger is fitted, working from photos of the cut-out, fuse and meter position.
The same SSEN forecast counted on more than 5,100 new heat pumps in Poole by 2030. If one is on your list too, it belongs in the same sum: SSEN's test is the whole property's maximum demand, so a charger and a heat pump together are more likely to need that load check than either alone.
