PVGIS, the EU's solar estimator, shows how uneven a Poole year is. On a south-facing 35-degree roof in the town centre, each kilowatt of panels averages about 4.5 kWh a day in June and about 1.2 kWh a day in December. SSEN, which runs Poole's local network, lists AC-coupled batteries among the generators it needs to know about. Add one alongside existing panels and the house has two generators, and SSEN's rule for that is an application before connection rather than a notice afterwards. Its G99 Fast Track covers smaller home systems, with a reply aimed for within 10 working days, after which the installer has up to three months to install and commission.
In practice that puts a paperwork step between the survey and the fitting day. The application goes in with the system details and the installation is booked once SSEN has confirmed.
