While up on the roof, they noticed several cracked tiles and immediately pointed them out to me, suggesting I get them fixed while the scaffolding was already set up. Rather than rushing to finish their own job, they kindly put their work on hold so I could get the roof repaired. … Finding a trade company with this degree of honesty, integrity, and punctuality is rare.

Solar Battery Storage Installation
A full solar array isn't a prerequisite for battery storage, which is often the detail that surprises Christchurch homeowners weighing it up. Whether you're adding a battery alongside new panels, retrofitting one to a system already fitted, or going without solar altogether, we cover the job across Christchurch, Highcliffe, Mudeford and Burton from our Airfield Way base.
Where the battery physically sits is usually the first thing we work out on site, and it depends more on the individual property than the town as a whole. Christchurch's town-centre homes, some dating from before the 1870s expansion that gave much of the wider area its later housing, don't always have the garage or utility space that's more common further out. Either way, the unit itself is compact enough to fit indoors or in a garage without needing much room.
Our expert team provides tailored installation and maintenance services, allowing you to cut costs and reduce carbon emissions. A battery never works alone - it's paired with an inverter that converts the stored energy into usable power for your home, so we always install and configure the two together as a single system, whether alongside a solar array or as a standalone solution.
Trust Electrical Exchange to guide you through the process, offering sustainable and cost-effective energy solutions for your home. Our commitment to your satisfaction means we'll be there to support you long after installation is complete.
Advantages of Battery Storage
Battery storage installation offers numerous benefits for residential properties. By storing excess solar energy or charging from the grid during off-peak times, batteries ensure a reliable power supply during peak demand periods or outages - reducing reliance on the grid, lowering electricity bills, and enhancing energy efficiency.
Battery storage systems also contribute to environmental sustainability by reducing carbon emissions associated with traditional energy sources. With customisable configurations and seamless integration, you can optimise energy usage and achieve long-term savings - our team is here to help you understand which solution best suits your specific needs.
Battery storage in Christchurch and the new safety standards
Where a home battery may go has been written down since 2024. PAS 63100, a specification from the British Standards Institution sponsored by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, covers fire protection for batteries in homes. Inside the house it keeps them out of bedrooms and the cupboards that open into them, and off the escape routes: the landings, stairs and hallways.
That bites hardest in flats, where there are fewer rooms to choose from, and Christchurch Town ward has plenty: at the 2021 Census, 27% of households occupied purpose-built flats and nearly 8% more lived in converted buildings or above shops. In a flat, where the battery can go is worth settling before the battery itself is chosen.
The standard also caps how much energy one home can hold. Total stored energy is limited to 40kWh in most indoor spaces, or 80kWh outdoors, in a detached garage or outbuilding, or behind 60-minute fire separation. The cap counts every battery in the home together, so a unit added later counts towards the same total. Where a battery won't fit, a solar diverter for your Christchurch home can store spare solar as hot water instead.
The wiring regulations are changing as well. Amendment 4 to BS 7671, the IET Wiring Regulations, adds a new chapter on stationary batteries, and BSI set 15 October 2026 as the date the previous edition is withdrawn, after which only the new edition is recognised. Every battery we fit from that date is designed to Amendment 4.

Adam took the time to understand our needs and provide us with a tailored solar solution that comprised of Roof Panels, Hybrid Inverter, Battery Storage and a solar IBoost. … The whole process was surprisingly smooth and completed in two days.
…it's great to not see the smart meter going up every day and getting money back for generated electricity that we've not used It's a win win delighted customers 😊
…although Adam’s quote wasn’t the cheapest, he took the time to explain the hidden complexities in my setup and his reasoning made complete sense. … The system has been running flawlessly since March, proving he was absolutely right.
We have multiple jobs and works completed by Adam and the team and could not be happier with the work conducted, this has included a rewire of our property and most recently new lights fitted to the entrance of our house set on a PIR brilliant work and to a very high standard.
I had good conversations with Adam beforehand and he suggested the best approach, he handled the required paperwork with the DNO. … he was able to have the wire come right out of the wall into the back of the charger, making it look incredibly neat.
Installed new consumer unit in old house and corrected many faults worked tirelessly for 4 days straight rewiring where necessary, changing sockets earthing system.
