While up on the roof, they noticed several cracked tiles and immediately pointed them out to me, suggesting I get them fixed while the scaffolding was already set up. Rather than rushing to finish their own job, they kindly put their work on hold so I could get the roof repaired. … Finding a trade company with this degree of honesty, integrity, and punctuality is rare.

Comfort in Every Room, All Year Round
A bedroom that's stuffy every summer or a lounge that's always the coldest room in winter is usually what brings a Christchurch household to air conditioning in the first place. Electrical Exchange installs air-to-air heat pump systems across the town and into Highcliffe, Mudeford and Burton, working from our Airfield Way base rather than travelling in from elsewhere.
Planning is the detail that varies most across Christchurch when it comes to an outdoor unit. Properties closer to the historic core near the Priory are more likely to sit inside one of the town's conservation areas or include a listed building, both of which affect where a unit can go and how it's mounted. Homes from the town's later expansion more often have straightforward garden space free of those considerations. Either way, siting is worked out at the free on-site consultation rather than assumed from the address.
We're with you from initial consultation through to ongoing support. That means understanding your specific heating and cooling needs first, then building a system around your home - not fitting your home around a standard package.
Every project starts with a free on-site consultation, so we can assess your property and give you an accurate, no-obligation quote before any work begins.

Why Air-to-Air Beats Traditional Heating
Unlike a traditional boiler and radiator setup, an air-to-air system delivers heat directly through the air rather than radiating it slowly from water-filled radiators. That means instant heat in winter and instant cooling in summer, with no waiting around for rooms to warm up or cool down.
Each room or zone is controlled independently, so you can cool a bedroom to the right temperature for sleeping in summer, keep a room comfortable for pets while you're out during the day, or take the chill off a lounge in winter, without heating or cooling the rest of the house.
If you already have solar panels or battery storage installed with us, we'll design your system to make the most of it - running heating and cooling from your own generation at no ongoing cost, provided you've got enough capacity.
What Your System Is Made Of
An air-to-air heat pump system is made up of a small number of key components, each playing a specific role in getting heating and cooling into your home efficiently.
The outdoor unit sits outside the property and transfers heat in or out as needed. Refrigerant piping connects this to one or more indoor units, each installed in the room or zone it serves. A thermostat or zone controller then gives you precise, room-by-room control over temperature.
Air conditioning in Christchurch next to close neighbours
Four households in five in Christchurch Town ward share a wall or a building with someone else. At the 2021 Census, 23% lived in a terrace, 22% in a semi and 27% in purpose-built blocks, with fewer than one in five in a detached house. That often puts an outdoor unit close to a neighbour's window, which is exactly where the planning noise test looks.
Since 28 May 2026, MCS 020(a) has been the only accepted standard for a heat pump installed as permitted development, and heating-capable air conditioning falls under the same rules. Its sound calculation sets a limit of 37 dB, averaged over five minutes, at points 1m outside the centre of any door or window to a neighbour's habitable room, checked on every side of the house and at each floor level.
The calculation gives credit for a barrier that blocks the line of sight between the unit and a window, so a corner behind a solid garden wall can pass where an open spot fails. On a terrace or semi, only the first outdoor unit counts as permitted development, which is one reason a single outdoor unit feeding several indoor units, a multi-split, suits so many of the town's homes.
Heating is the bigger job here than cooling. Over 1991 to 2020, the Met Office's Hurn station averaged 56 days of air frost a year, about 11 each in December and January, while July's average daytime high was 22.2°C. Summer heat is real, but on those figures the heating side of the system earns its keep for more of the year, and both sides run from the same outdoor unit.

Adam from Electrical Exchange came and wired in my Air Conditioning unit. Very friendly and informative from start to finish. … He even chatted me through my existing solar and battery set up where I had a few unrelated questions too.
Installed a sub-board for an air con unit I was installing…Prompt & polite, works clean & tidy.. highly recommend Adam and his team
…although Adam’s quote wasn’t the cheapest, he took the time to explain the hidden complexities in my setup and his reasoning made complete sense. … The system has been running flawlessly since March, proving he was absolutely right.
We have multiple jobs and works completed by Adam and the team and could not be happier with the work conducted, this has included a rewire of our property and most recently new lights fitted to the entrance of our house set on a PIR brilliant work and to a very high standard.
I had good conversations with Adam beforehand and he suggested the best approach, he handled the required paperwork with the DNO. … he was able to have the wire come right out of the wall into the back of the charger, making it look incredibly neat.
Installed new consumer unit in old house and corrected many faults worked tirelessly for 4 days straight rewiring where necessary, changing sockets earthing system.
…it's great to not see the smart meter going up every day and getting money back for generated electricity that we've not used It's a win win delighted customers 😊
Adam took the time to understand our needs and provide us with a tailored solar solution that comprised of Roof Panels, Hybrid Inverter, Battery Storage and a solar IBoost. … The whole process was surprisingly smooth and completed in two days.
Adam and Peter have done a wonderful installation on my FastAmps EVCharger From the moment I contacted Adam about the job to completion it was approached in the most professional and efficient manner.
I recently had the latest generation of the Fastamp Alpha 7 home EV charger installed by Adam and his team from Electrical Exchange and I couldn’t be happier with the experience.
Full garden lighting project was completed by Electrical Exchange. Installation of armoured cable, outdoor sockets, down lights, up lights, tree lights and rope lighting around patio. … I would call Adam a perfectionist with his neat and tidy workmanship.
Installed my EV charger and replaced the consumer unit to a very high standard. Professional, tidy, punctual, and took the time to explain everything clearly.
Quoted ordered and fitted Fast Amp charger all within 4 days …commissioned demonstrated all working fine thanks to Adam and Fast Amp 👍
Adam from Electrical Exchange was punctual, professional and completed our electrical work to a high standard. He was friendly and explained everything clearly and he left everything clean and tidy.
…The whole process was clearly explained, they put a mat down when working indoors and left with everything looking great.
I have them as my go to people for various needs around my old outdated Victorian house which has needed that more modern touch.
Adam, was very helpful and really supportive in installing my charger by providing relevant advice and guidance throughout the whole process.
Adam and his team were great. He was on time, tidy and did the job well. There was a problem (not of his making) that he persisted with and managed to solve.

Air Conditioning in Christchurch: What To Know
A starting point - get in touch if your question isn't answered here. See every answer
The whole town, plus Highcliffe, Mudeford and Burton as standard. Being based on Airfield Way rather than elsewhere in Dorset means there's no separate call-out charge for a Christchurch address.
Most domestic installations fall under permitted development, subject to size and mounting rules, but the right is excluded entirely for listed buildings and restricted in conservation areas, both of which Christchurch has. Because our systems heat as well as cool, they also meet the condition that the unit isn't used for cooling alone. We'll confirm your specific property's position at the free consultation rather than assume it either way.
There's no travel time to build into the schedule when the job's in the town we're already based in. Get in touch and we'll find a slot that works.
Ongoing support is part of what we offer, not an afterthought once the install's signed off. Our team, the same people who consult, design and fit your system, are the ones you'd call if it ever needs attention.
It comes down to the number of rooms or zones, your property's layout and the units specified, so we don't quote a fixed price without seeing it first. A free on-site consultation gets you a detailed, fixed quote with no hidden extras.
Modern indoor units run quietly, and the outdoor unit is sized and positioned at your consultation specifically to keep noise down, which matters more on some of Christchurch's tighter, closer-set streets than it does on a detached property with space around it.
